The Anatomy of the Prostate

Facts: The Prostate Gland:

  • Is part of the genitourinary system, which is comprised of organs that
  • are involved with urination and sexual function in males.
  • Is about the size of a walnut.
  • Is located in front of the rectum which is behind the base of the penis and
  • underneath the bladder (collects and empties urine).
  • Surrounds the upper part of the urethra, which carries urine and semen out of the penis.
  • Makes the fluid that contains sperm called the semen.
